Since first being introduced to Björk’s music in college, years ago, her music has always had a certain allure – the beats, the floaty rhythmic groove and of course, the string writing. Oh the string writing!
I have a new home on the world wide web!
First and foremost, I have to credit Ms. Beth Beauchamp for the site, Mr. Luke Copping for the photos and Ms. Cassandra Lyon for the stylings. This trio is a serious PR dream team as they have dragged me out of my Spock haircut, Dynamod days and shown me the light. An undercut and squarespace is the future, my friends.
So have a look-see and check out all the nooks and crannies. I have grand plans to keep up-to-date with news posts and now that I've stated it *publicly*, maybe I'll actually keep my promise. In the meantime, hope you enjoy yukinumata.com, 2015-styles!
Happy 2015, friends! I hope the holidays treated you well and you’ve emerged on the other side, generally unscathed and ready to take on 2015 with a vengeance. You might be wondering, why does Yuki have all this unfamiliar energy?! Well, the boys and I went to Vancouver for the holidays and my parents gave us a much-needed and much-appreciated break from LIFE. They stole as many moments as possible with Ko which meant that Kyle and I were free to practice, go to the gym, and, you know, do all those things grownups do…like sleep in. Oh what? You were thinking something else? Get your mind out of the gutter!
We’re back in Buffalo now and the news for the month is that Buffalo String Works is back in session and we’re rarin’ to go! My colleagues Ginny Barron and Elise Golove and I started and after-school violin program that provides musical opportunities to Buffalo’s refugee population. We opened our doors in September 2014 with 16 kids and we just added another 17 students to our program this week! Super awesome stuff! If you’re interested in checking us out, here we are on the world wide web: www.buffalostringworks.org.
This post is embarrassingly tardy considering my first and last post was dated February 29, 2012. What can I say? Much has happened in the er … 2.5 years since that post including KYLE RESNICK AND I GOT HITCHED! We also moved to Buffalo, I started a job as a professor at the University at Buffalo, we bought a house, and oh yeah, WE HAD A KID! His name is Ko and he’s almost 1 year old now. Ko has absolutely taken over our lives and life is all amuck but we love the chaos (sometimes) and are finally settling down after a whirlwind few years.
So the extra big news coming up is that I’m headed down to Sydney and Melbourne to play Max Richter’s Vivaldi Recomposed! I’ve never been to Australia before and since Ko will be waiting for me at home, I won’t have much time for exploration but I’m planning to make the most of this trip. I’m super stoked to work with Max for the first time and with my Wordless Music Orchestra friends for the billionth time. This group of people is seriously the BEST EVER so I can’t wait. Not to mention, I’m playing with my old friends ACME in a few concerts this season so really, life is just abounding with wonderful things.
Here’s to good friends and good music!
I’m so glad you’ve stopped by to check out my website. This is an entirely new adventure for me but I finally decided that 2012 is the year for me to finally join the rest of civilization. I’ll be doing my best to keep it freshly updated so please check back from time to time!
